Across Queensland, New South Wales, and more recently Victoria, years of record-breaking drought left Australia’s once-lush countryside a brown and barren ruin. Fields that were once green became dusty and lifeless, with nothing for the animals to eat. While some areas have received rain, over 80% of NSW is still drought declared, and farmers need help getting back on their feet until they can begin to receive an income again.
To help farmers through these extremely difficult times, Rural Aid provide tanks of fresh drinking water and hay for their precious livestock. Just $450 is enough to buy a truckload of fresh drinking water for a family in need, and $100 buys a large bale of hay for hungry animals.
About Rural Aid
Rural Aid is one of Australia’s largest rural charities. Well known for the highly successful ‘Buy a Bale’ campaign, the charity also provides financial assistance, water and counselling to farmers in times of drought, flood or fire. Other initiatives support its vision that farming and rural communities are safeguarded to ensure their sustainability both during and after these natural disasters.
Australian farmers produce almost 93% of Australia’s daily domestic food supply. When a natural disaster impacts farmers, it affects all of us. Many of the farmers that Rural Aid assists have not had an income in years, and yet they work tirelessly each day to keep their farms going.
Visit www.ruralaid.org.au for further information on these programs and other support for our rural communities.
